For a good number of Internet marketers, the entire concept of Local SEO or Local Search Engine Optimization has become somewhat obsolete. Not only is local search still important but it’s more challenging than ever to rank high in the search engine results. And there are many reasons why.

The thing that I see most when I talk to people who run an online business is the confusion regarding Local SEO. One SEO expert told me that when he started off he never used Local SEO, but it was a whole different ball game. The first challenge is a good way to look at it is the sheer amount of information associated with a local market. Especially the specific market conditions are going to have a large impact on your overall ranking. It’s not going to be an easy task to actually get a website to show up on the first page of the search engine results for a specific market, especially for a fairly tight-knit market.

One of the biggest challenges that most Internet marketers face is that Local SEO can be very difficult. There are a lot of competitors that are going to be trying to drive traffic to their websites as well as drive traffic to yours. Usually if you’re going to be doing it on your own, you’re going to need a full-time employee who is going to be creating content, doing the basic SEO work and promoting the website. Plus, the money that you are going to be spending in order to operate a business online can get expensive.

Another huge challenge is the amount of time that it takes to do all of this correctly. Of course, that’s the reason why many people outsource to local SEO firms. However, I think that outsourcing to an online business that specializes in Local SEO is still a challenge.

Another challenge with Local SEO is the fact that some people don’t have the experience necessary to properly optimize the website for their specific market. I also think that sometimes it can be too costly of a task to hire someone to do the work for you. There are some real questions that arise with this issue.

The third thing that I find to be very challenging is the fact that some local SEO firms won’t offer you a guarantee that you’re going to get your website listed on the first page of the search engines. Even though I think that is a very good thing. It would be nice to know that you have a great chance of getting listed first when you’re dealing with a local company.

Lastly, there are some people who think that Local SEO isn’t very effective, but then there are some people who have been doing it for years and have never had a local listing. When I started out, I wasn’t able to get my website listed on the first page. So I have to say that what I have to say here is somewhat controversial.

I think that using Local SEO is a lot of fun. You’re going to make some friends, get traffic and have a chance at making some really good money. It doesn’t happen overnight, but once you put in the time, you’re going to get a lot of traffic and a lot of interest from the people who are in your area.
